Our sustainability mission
Kennedy Park is proud to be green
At Kennedy Park we are working towards a better future for our children through sustainability endeavours. We have committed to the ‘Qualmark Sustainability’ initiatives to create a ‘greener’ future. We have achieved a Gold standard with Qualmark.
Chemical Use
- Use of eco-friendly cleaning products in our units
- Use of eco-friendly pesticides where-ever possible
- Laundry powder, fabric softeners, shampoos, & soaps are in pump dispensers to minimise waste
Community
- We are involved with sponsorship for several community initiatives including the Angels for Children Trust & Children’s ‘Safe Site’.
- We are Gold sponsors of the Hawks Basketball team
- Our staff engage in beach clean-ups and tree planting
- We employ staff from the Eastern Institute of Technology and IHC
- Where possible we use local manufacturers and suppliers
- Donations of rooms for school fundraising purposes
Conservation
- Bio-degradable rubbish bags
- Worm farms being installed for guests waste food products
- Oil filter system in our restaurant to minimise oil changes
- Combi steamer in our restaurant
Gas & Energy
- Motion sensor controls in our BBQ area
- Infinity hot water systems using Natural Gas
- Low energy bulbs (where possible)
- Motion sensor lighting in communal areas
- Park lighting is light sensor controlled
- All computers turned off at night
- Office lights on independent switches
Staff
- Many of our staff are involved in and run our Sustainability Committee which is also part of the Visitor Experiences Sustainability Committee
- Sustainability information is given to all staff members
- Sustainability is a part of our staff induction process
Waste Management
- Recycling bays throughout the park
- Recycling bins in all units
- Reminders to guests about recycling
- Use of recycled products where possible
- Printer cartridges recycled
- Used oil sent for recycling
- Green waste separated
- Double-sided printing and reuse of single sided paper for office notepads
Water
- Garden planting is planned for minimum watering requirements
- Low flow tap fittings have been installed in our units
- Dual flush toilet systems are in place
- Guests are encouraged to reuse towels rather than having them changed every day (this is our guests’ personal choice)
